    Dan’s Custom Landscapes has been caring for its customer’s properties in Ames and the surrounding area since 1986. Dan’s Custom Landscapes is looking for Lawn Applicators for the upcoming season. The Lawn Applicator will be responsible for making fertilizer and pesticide applications to the lawns of Dan’s Custom Landscapes clients. Providing these services in a timely, professional, and safe manner is what we expect of our applicators. Other duties may be assigned as needed. The Lawn Applicator will report to the Chemical Department Head. 

                The Lawn Applicator is a full-time position (40+ hours per week). Application season runs, depending on the weather, from April till November. The Lawn Applicator should be prepared to help with snow removal operations in the off-season. 

                Qualified applicants should have or should be able to get their 3OT Iowa pesticide certification. Applicants must be 18 years of age. Applicants must have a High school diploma or GED equivalent. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Applicants must be able to work independently and must be able to follow directions for each specific client. Applicants must be able to lift and control 50 pound bags of fertilizer repeatedly throughout the workday. Applicants must be able to safely and efficiently operate application equipment. 

                Pay for this position will be dependent on experience and/or education. Insurance plans available to full time employees after 3 months.  401k plan is available for employees after 1 year of employment. Dan’s will match 3% of contributions to plan.

    • Maintenance of all trees and shrubs – planting, pruning, removing, diagnosing nutrient needs as well as insect and disease damage, watering, weeding shrub beds, etc.
    • Parking Lots - removing litter, inspecting and contracting out concrete repair, snow removal from lots and walks, applying salt, etc.
    • Irrigation repair - servicing/troubleshooting all aspects of the radio-controlled irrigation system.
    • Service all loading docks.
    • Participate as part of Site Maintenance team by attending meetings, having a positive attitude and possess the ability to work independently and as a team player.
    • Involve co-workers on problem solving and utilizing their assistance.
    • Assist in projects for Building Maintenance and Farm Operations and FS&RE.
    • Diagnose and repair minor problems associated with equipment such as mowers, trimmers, tractors, edger’s, blowers, plows, etc.
    • Must perform all work in a safe manner by following all training requirements as well as safety guidelines and procedures. Proper protective equipment will be worn at all times. Zero accidents are the number one goal.
    • Additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

    Job Qualifications

    The following are required:

    • High School Diploma/GED
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Valid Class B CDL licensed or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
    • State of Iowa Certified Applicator in Turf/Ornamentals or the ability to certify within 6 months of hire

    Bunkers Feed and Supply Lawn and Tree Service has an internship available spring of 2019.

    This paid internship will provide you with valuable hands on experience on how to deal with real world situations and management issues. You will be exposed to the work schedule of the turf management industry.

    You will become a licensed commercial pesticide applicator in category 3OT, ornamental and turfgrass.  

    You will interact with Bunkers Feed and Supply Lawn Care clients and apply a fertilizer, weed, insect and or disease control program to area residential and commercial lawns.  

    This internship will provide you with:

    • Knowledge of Turfgrass management
    • Lawn Maintenance equipment operation
    • Marketing, project evaluations and bidding
    • Customer Service Skills
