    D&K Products – Warehouse Manager / Inside Sales Position

    Des Moines Office

    D&K Products is a Wholesale Supplier of Turf Care Products to golf courses, lawn care companies and sports fields in Iowa, Nebraska and Western Illinois. The applicant must have a strong work ethic, good communication skills, and the desire to service the turf industry. A good driving record is required; the position will require the applicant to obtain a Class B CDL driver’s license and on occasion help with deliveries.

    Duties: Over the counter sales to walk-in customers, computer entry, inventory management, product delivery scheduling, loading and unloading of freight, and warehouse organization. The applicant must have the ability to operate a forklift.

    General Description: D&K Products is a wholesale supplier with 5 warehouse locations around the Midwest. The Des Moines Warehouse manager is responsible for coordinating and supplying the other four locations with product on a weekly basis, as well as working with the Des Moines staff to set up and schedule customer deliveries originating out of the Des Moines warehouse.

    Education: 2-year college degree preferred. Turfgrass degree not necessary, but desirable.

    Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs., 100 feet.

     $ 50,000 - $ 55,000

    Position Summary

    Spray Business Developer

    Provides quality and timely service to the customer through the recruitment, training and supervision of 10-12 lawn care technicians. Provides effective coaching and development of field staff so that they may positively impact customer retention through exceeding customer expectations.

    Primary Duties

    • Responsible for supervision of spray techs’ performance and daily job instruction, application, and production results
    • Maintains and oversees accurate records of crew paperwork, material loading, product orders, scheduled time, etc. and reports information to the spray business developer on a timely basis
    • Reviews and understands paperwork, invoices, and details to determine product, equipment , skill, and time requirements for applications
    • Verifies the timely arrival of materials to A+ or jobsites to facilitate quality and efficient applications
    • Responsible for overseeing the loading and unloading of materials, tools, and equipment needed for applications
    • Train and supervise employees under his/her direction
    • Daily site visits to each crew
    • Customer communications courteous
    • Promote Safety
    • Provide leadership

    • Gain and expand a thorough working knowledge of spray materials

    Job requirements

    ·       Have a valid DL and be able to operate large trucks, equipment,  and trailers

    ·       B.S. in an Agronomy/Agriculture with a Turf Grass focus

    Job Environment / Physical Requirements

    ·       Exposure to occasional noise from power equipment, saws, etc. (personal protective equipment available)

    ·       Outdoor temperature conditions typical of Iowa through winter, spring, summer, and fall

    ·       Outdoor exposure to conditions ranging from the sun,  heat, wind, cold, snow, rain, etc

    ·       Exposure to materials and  equipment that can cause cuts, abrasions, etc

    ·       Heavy repeated lifting (50 lbs or greater) required – use proper lifting techniques!

    ·       Repeated stooping, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, and walking necessary

    • JOB DESCRIPTION

      Grounds Maintenance/Landscaper

      General Summary:

      Provide grounds maintenance for commercial properties including mowing, upkeep of landscaping, planters, trees and bushes.  In the off season, will need to provide snow removal for commercial properties with company provided equipment. 

      Job Duties and Responsibilities:

      1.     Maintain, upkeep and plant landscaping.  Knowledge of small power tools for trimming and pruning trees and shrubs, pulling and spraying weeds, trimming hedges, watering and fertilizing plants, leaf removal and daily trash removal at commercial properties.  Landscape new ground areas, repairs damaged ground areas, replaces bushes, hedges, shrubs and trees.  

      2.     Mowing: operate and maintain commercial lawn care equipment (including zero turn riding mowers, walk behind mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers and etc.) for mowing, trimming, edging, aerating and other similar tasks at commercial properties.  

      3.     Ensures properties sprinklers systems are working and general upkeep to sprinkler systems. Provide light maintenance to sprinkler systems.  

      4.     Applies herbicide and pesticide chemicals to grounds, trees, bushes, shrubs and lawns in order to control plant diseases and insects. Company will pay for classes and license.  

      5.     Snow Removal: Will help with snow removal at commercial properties.

      6.     Building Maintenance: Perform physical tasks necessary to maintain commercial buildings.  Assist others to provide major, minor and routine maintenance and repairs in a timely and professional manner.

      7.     Any other job duties as assigned.


    • Other Requirements

      1.     Ability to operate all necessary hand tools to make repairs.

      2.     Must be able to work flexible hours and to be “on call” in case of an emergency; available for overtime as needed for emergencies.

      3.     The position of Grounds Maintenance/Landscaper must have the physical, mental and verbal ability to perform his or her duties with minimal or no assistance (although reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform their essential functions). Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, ability to crouch, climb, crawl, etc. to make repairs and tolerance to all extremes of hot and cold weather.

      4.     Licensed for state chemical applications (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

      5.     Will need to have a valid driver’s license.

    What You’ll Do: As a Groundskeeper, you will assist with the maintenance of all grounds and parking areas at Farm Bureau’s West Des Moines location. You will assist with the planting, edging, pruning, fertilizing, mulching and transplanting of flowers, shrubs, trees, and bushes on our property. You will also cut the grass using foot and rider type power mowers, and operate other equipment such as a seeder, sweeper and hand power tools. It is important that you understand the various types of fertilizers and chemicals, as you will operate liquid and powder applicators applying the proper amount during the appropriate season. During the winter months, you will be responsible for removing snow and debris from walkways.

    You will work a rotational schedule Monday - Friday, with core hours being 8am-4:30pm. The rotation is one week you will work Wednesday from 5am-1:30pm, and the next week you will work Monday and Friday from 5am-1:30pm. You may work an occasional Saturday as needed, and will be on call 24/7 during snow removal – so flexibility in your schedule is key.

    What It Takes to Join Our Team:

    • High school diploma or equivalent, plus at least 2 years of horticulture, groundskeeping and/or landscaping experience required.
    • Must have or attain a Certified Applicator license (3OT (Ornamental and Turf Pest)) and maintain Continuing Education Units (C.E.U.’s) to keep the Certified Applicators license current.
    • Must be able to work under all types of weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, etc).
    • Some lifting is required (up to 100 lbs.) and extensive time is spent walking, bending and reaching.
    • Knowledge of commercial lawn mowers and small engine equipment is preferred, as well as knowledge of irrigation systems.
